Note what you don't see on this 1937 Cord 812 for sale on Hemmings.com: badges, cloissones, and other decoration from years and years of participating in shows and scooping up awards. That's because it's apparently been shown a handful of times locally – and driven just 40 miles – since its decades-long restoration wrapped several years back. Despite the wool it's gathered in that time, it reportedly remains ready to run and show at a moment's notice these days. From the seller's description:
This Cord was purchased by a long-time collector in the Pacific Northwest from the previous owner in Michigan in 1983. Over the next 20+ years it was the subject of a full frame-off restoration to concours show level. This was literally a no-expense-spared project with all components being restored, rebuilt or replaced. A carton of receipts, photos and documents related to the process testify to the thoroughness of the restoration and enormous amount of money spent to return it to showroom condition.
Once completed, the Cord was shown at the Silver Falls, Washington Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Gathering. Other than a few other showings it remained in the owner's climate-controlled garage with his large automobile collection. Today, the odometer shows just 40 miles since restoration.
The car appears fresh in all respects. The body, paint and chrome are beautiful. The interior is stunning and looks as if it rolled out of the Cord factory yesterday. The thousand-and-one details that make an exceptional Cord have all been attended-to and the car is a standout on the road and the show field. Mechanically it is excellent. The rebuilt Lycoming V8 engine starts easily, runs smoothly and thanks to the supercharger, generates 170 HP making it fully capable of freeway speeds. The front-wheel-drive and vacuum-electric shifting system operate perfectly. It shifts easily through all 4 speeds and reverse. It is truly a pleasure to drive. Please see video and photos which were just taken and show the current condition of this Cord.
Since this Cord has remained behind closed doors for much of the past 33 years, with only limited showings, it has yet to be A-C-D certified, although this should be a straight-forward process for the new owner, if they so desire, thanks to the extensive documentation that is included. It would be welcome at all A-C-D shows and tours as well as Classic Car Club of America events.
It is only due to the passing of the owner that it is being offered for sale by his estate.
