Shinya Kimura's 1915 Indian twin, fresh from this year's Motorcycle Cannonball. Photos by the author.
As if 3,306 miles of grueling highway riding just a few weeks ago wasn't enough, several riders from the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball Race of the Century were on hand at The Race of Gentleman West in Pismo Beach on October 15.
Detail of the Indian's 101-year old twin.
Shinya Kimura, aboard his 1915 Indian, was spotted in the racers area before the beach pits were opened. Later we learned that Doug Feinsod, on his 1913 Thor, and John Szalay, on his 1915 Thor, were also in attendance. Cannonball veteran and Occhio Lungo blogster Pete Young was there as well, looking to race his 1916 Excelsior. Not only did these bikes (and riders) perform over long distances for 15 stages of the Cannonball, they also apparently like to get dirty and muddy.
Here we see Steve Gonzales aboard his #59 1915 Harley-Davidson; Doug Feinsod aboard his #18 1913 Thor; Dan Kraft aboard his #72 1913 Thor; and Pete Young, riding his 1914 Excelsior (with the 100 number plate).
A better shot of Pete Young's 1914 Excelsior. Though he didn't ride in this year's Cannonball, he's a multi-time veteran of the event.
