Though currently situated somewhere east of Miami, Florida, Hurricane Joachin is already having an impact on Wildwood, New Jersey. Erring on the side of caution, city officials have postponed this weekend’s Race of Gentlemen, moving it to the following weekend, October 10 and 11.
The news was announced on the Oiler’s Car Club Race of Gentlemen Facebook page. Per the club’s statement, all tickets will be honored on October 10 and 11, and for those unable to change plans, 2015 tickets will be honored at the 2016 event. Organizers are working with area hotels to rebook guests accordingly, but those with reservations may wish to contact the hotel directly to follow up.
Current projections show Joachin making landfall somewhere along the East Coast, between North Carolina and Rhode Island, early on Monday, October 5. The National Hurricane Center describes the storm as “very difficult to predict,” and admits to very low confidence in its current forecast. With an unpredictable storm potentially heading its way, the city of Wildwood did the only prudent thing to ensure the safety of both residents and guests alike.
We’ll update the situation as more information becomes available, but for now we’re looking forward to seeing you on the beach in Wildwood on October 10 and 11.
