Cloth Diapers and Its Essential Oils

Essential oils are becoming more popular especially now that it’s being used in baby cloth diaper and other accessories as well. But what exactly are essential oils? Basically, it comes from plant distillates and extracts that are usually derived from leaves, flowers, stems, rinds, berries, and even roots of plants. These oils are responsible for emitting the essence of a plant’s smell. They are also famously used in aromatherapy and folk medicine mainly for its healing properties. With that in mind, you can say that essential oils are one of the best in terms of all-natural use in many things.

So you might be wondering, what role does essential oil have in cloth diapers? Check out its many uses below:

 

For Washing

For some reason that the smell doesn’t go away even after washing, try rinsing the cloth diaper in a vinegar and hot water solution. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil during the rinsing process to disinfect the cloth diaper. This will also provide a pleasing aroma to the diapers. Just make sure to be mindful of the amount of natural oils you add into the diapers because too much of it can cause it to build-up.

 

Baby Wipes

There are multiple ways that you can add sweet smell and even disinfectant essential oils into your baby/diaper wipes. If you want, you can always come up with your own solution for it to even suit your taste. There are loads of essential oil recipes that can go well with baby wipes. If you want, here is a sample recipe below:

 

Anti-Fungal Baby Wipes:

  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. Calendula Oil
  • ¼ cup Aloe Vera gel
  • 2 drops Grape Seed Extract  or Tea Tree Oil
  • 2 drops Chamomile or Lavender Oil

 

Mix all the ingredients in a jar and pour it over the baby wipes. If you have some solution left then just keep it inside the fridge.

 

Diaper Rash Cream

In today’s market, there are lots of diaper rash creams that incorporate the use of soothing and sweet qualities that essential oils provide. Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Chamomile are some of the commonly used to name a few. You can try researching a few of the best to see if its qualities captivate you.

 

The Diaper Pail

Diaper pails are bound to get dirty and even smell after a prolonged use. To clean it, add in a highly disinfectant grape seed extract. This will also remove all signs of odors in the process. You can also add lavender or tea tree oil to a cloth and lay it at the pail’s bottom to handle the odors even more. Keep in mind that essential oils are the best remedy when it comes to controlling the odors.

 

Now that you know the purpose of essential oils, it’s time that you put it to good use. This will benefit your baby in many different ways and it will surely keep the cloth diapers smelling fresh for a long time.
