Toronto, 1956

Series 372, Subseries 58 - Road and street condition photographs

From the City of Toronto’s archives comes today’s carspotting scene, part of a photographic survey of the city’s roads, so it was well identified as 42 Gerrard Street looking west, taken in March 1956. Gorries, as it turns out, was one of Toronto’s biggest volume Chevrolet dealers and inhabited that space until the latter half of the Sixties. That building also seems to be the only one still standing along that stretch of street today. What do you see here?
