Hemmings Find of the Day – 1956 Pontiac Chieftain

1956 Pontiac Chieftain

From the seller’s description:

Untouched for 28 years in a Southern California garage, this 1956 Pontiac Chieftain 2-Door Hardtop with a V-8 (believed to be the 316.6 cu.in. engine) was a fully running and driving car when put in storage. Not surprisingly, it’s not currently running and would need a good going through of fluids in the radiator, transmission, master cylinder, engine, etc., as well as, brakes, new tires and battery. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt just prior to being stored and that claim would seem to be backed up, as when it was driven just prior to the storage, it shifted very smoothly and properly.

A complete car, the body panels look straight with minor rust appearing in the lower right rear panel, just ahead of the tire, and a small area on the bottom right of the driver’s side door. The underside appears to be solid with what seems to be just a light dusting of surface rust on some of the metal surfaces. (Please see photos.)

This would be a nice little car to restore completely, or just enough to be a functioning driver’s car for cruise night and/or getting around town. Unlike the Chevy Tri-Fives, you don’t see many of the ’50s Pontiacs being driven, so this one will stand out. Will be a nice addition or start to someone’s collection.

Since I’m not a dealer, I can’t offer any guarantees, warranty or the like. I encourage you to come see the car in person – or – send an agent to check it out for you, as once it is sold there are no refunds.
