In an effort to get us “off the Hartford train,” reader Greg Beaulieu directed us toward Nova Scotia’s online photo archives, particularly the photos that depict downtown Barrington Street in the early Sixties. “It is interesting in that it was the main commercial street of the city until the Halifax Shopping Center opened in the early 1960s, which wiped out a lot of the commercial activity,” Greg wrote. “The pics attached seem to have been taken through the rear window of an electric trolley as it progressed down the street.” Which would explain the enthusiasm of the driver in the foreground of the above photo.
