Harlem, New York, 1970s

Harlem1970s_1000

Thanks to Mark Peter Drolet on Tumblr, we came across this Jack Garofolo photo of Harlem in the 1970s, but tracking down the exact location proved a little more difficult. Florsheim Shoes and A.J. Lester were both chains, but after reading up on the history of Freedom National Bank, we were able to zero in on the corner of Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, where the bank’s facade remains to confirm the location. What do you see here?
