It’s not perfect, and it’s the opposite of flashy, but this base 1977 Chevrolet Nova four-door sedan for sale on Hemmings.com – equipped with a six-cylinder engine, automatic transmission, bench seat, some shade of brown everywhere you look, air conditioning, and about nothing else – is about as well-preserved as a vehicle can be without having sat in a garage for the last 40 years and without having any less than its 33,800 miles. From the seller’s description:
33,800 documented miles. Purchased from meticulous original owner who always garaged the vehicle. Car was purchased on August 8, 1977, from Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas and includes comprehensive paperwork — original invoice, window sticker, application for title, annual TX registration paperwork, etc.
To my knowledge, the car is not missing any original parts except those replaced for reliability or safety reasons; i.e., tires, battery, rear brake shoes, alternator, all belts and hoses, and air conditioning compressor. Air conditioning system converted to R-134; however, rebuilt Delco compressor recently failed after 13 months of service and will need to be replaced (asking price adjusted downward to reflect Buyer’s anticipated expense).
Al original interior, including crack-free dash pad, excellent headliner and package tray, AM radio, carpets and upholstery. Note from photos that driver’s seat belt buckle is missing its OEM plastic casing. Original paint in excellent condition with the exception of the front fender upper surfaces, which have been resprayed, and the right rear fender, which evidences a small amount of body filler and a portion of an older metal crease (see photo).
I use this car as a reliable second vehicle. It starts instantly, idles properly, and shifts smoothly. It would be extremely difficult to find a more original 4th generation Nova 4-door sedan which has been preserved to this degree and is as mechanically sound.
